Musculoskeletal ultrasound is an injury diagnosis assessment technique that uses sound waves to create images of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints throughout the body. MSK ultrasound serves as an excellent imaging tool and is extensively utilised as an assessment technique by sport and exercise medicine professionals, offering an objective method to confirm clinical findings.
Our Sports doctor utilises ultrasound imaging as both a diagnostic scan and to guide injection therapies to ensure they are delivered at exactly the source of your problem. A written diagnostic report can be issued or the scan can be incorporated in to a wider clinical assessment with physical examination and comprehensive management plan.
Our sports doctor provides ultrasound imaging for problems arising from the elbow, shoulder, knee, foot and ankle.
There are major benefits to use MSK ultrasound over other imaging modalities:
- Every patient can undergo sonography- There are no contraindications to sonography. Even patients with metal implants or cardiac implants can have an ultrasound (not possible with MRI). Ultrasound examinations are performed with the patient in a more comfortable position.
- Allows real-time dynamic examination of the patient- Static imaging may does not show tissues and structures in movement, when pain and dysfunction may become present. during an ultrasound examination, the patient can perform dynamic movements that provoke pain, and clinicians can observe real-time how structures respond. Dynamic examinations can show changes in conditions such as shoulder impingement which would not show on a static MRI.
Facilitates quick bilateral comparison - Clinicians performing ultrasound examinations are able to quickly assess contralateral limbs to detect bilateral asymmetries, and evaluate if pathology exists or if it is simply down to anatomical variability.
Fully qualified practitioners using the worlds best ultrasound technology...
Our sports and musculoskeletal specialists are fully trained in MSK diagnostic ultrasound. They will utilise this to complement their clinical findings to offer patients a more accurate diagnosis and therefore a more targeted treatment and rehabilitation plan.
At Pro Sports Medicine we use the Sonosite Edge II, a high-frequency scanner from one of the worlds leading manufacturers in imaging technology. The Edge II features DirectClear™ Technology that elevates transducer performance by increasing penetration and contrast resolution. This contributes to an unsurpassed quality image for our clinicians.
Diagnostic scans start at £150. This is a 30 minute scan with written report.Consultation, scan and management plan begins at £275 for a 45 – 60 minute assessment.
