Pro Sports Medicine is delighted to welcome Dr Julian Chakraverty, one of the UK’s leading Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologists, to our specialist clinical team in Cardiff.
Julian is a fellowship-trained consultant specialising in orthopaedic imaging, sports injury diagnosis and advanced image-guided procedures. He works extensively within elite sport and is Lead Doctor and Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist for Bath Rugby.

His appointment brings another exceptional level of expertise to Pro Sports Medicine and further strengthens our position as a leading destination for sports medicine, advanced diagnostics and rehabilitation in Wales and the West.
Julian works across Premiership rugby with Bath Rugby, professional football, county cricket and elite athletics, including the UK Sports Institute. He has also provided medical support to Bristol City Football Club and the Gibraltar Football Association.

This experience means he understands that imaging should do more than identify an abnormality. It should help clinicians establish an accurate diagnosis, determine the best treatment and guide rehabilitation and return-to-sport decisions.
Patients at Pro Sports Medicine will now be able to access the diagnostic standards used within professional sport, regardless of their level of activity.
Julian will provide consultant-led musculoskeletal assessment, advanced diagnostic ultrasound and specialist image-guided procedures at Pro Sports Medicine.
His areas of expertise include:
Muscle, tendon and ligament injuries
Complex shoulder, hip and groin problems
Athletic groin and inguinal-region ultrasound
Hydrodilatation for frozen shoulder
Barbotage for calcific tendinopathy
High-volume injections for selected tendon conditions
Julian’s background includes training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, osteopathy, radiology and Sports and Exercise Medicine. He also teaches anatomy at the University of Bristol and has published extensively across sports medicine, orthopaedic and radiology literature.
Julian’s arrival further enhances the complete PSM Pathway:

Patients can move from consultant assessment and advanced imaging into image-guided treatment, specialist physiotherapy and performance rehabilitation within one coordinated clinical service.
For complex sports injuries, persistent pain or conditions that have not responded to previous treatment, this provides access to a clearer diagnosis and a more informed plan for recovery.
Appointments with Dr Julian Chakraverty will be available at Pro Sports Medicine in Cardiff.
